The nominations for this years Oscars are out. Here’s the best film nominations. The rest can be seen here.
Best Motion Picture
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Benjamin Button got the most recognition, with thirteen nominations overall. It won’t be released over here in Ireland until next month and will be reviewed once it does.
Personally I was slightly disappointed The Wrestler and/or director Darren Arronofsky haven’t been recognised for what is my favourite film of the year..
Also, it seems slightly baffling that a film such as The Dark Knight can recieve a multitude of technical nominations yet be snubbed for a Best Picture nomination. On the topic of said film, it was great to see Heath Ledger get the expected and well deserved nomination.
A couple of other surprises – Robert Downey Jr. for his role in Tropic Thunder playing ‘the dude playin’ a dude disguised as another dude’. Also, Bruce Springsteen not getting a look in for his brilliant tune for The Wrestler, especially after winning the Golden Globe award earlier this month.
Wall-E is surely a shoe in for the Best Animated Film, although it is easily good enough to be in the Best Film category.
Predictions will be posted closer to the night. (22nd February)
