Review: The A-Team

Director: Joe Carnahan

Starring: Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Curtis Jackson, Sharlto Copley, Jessica Biel, Patrick Wilson

Another Summer, another remake trying to cash in on 1980’s nostalgia. In the past two days I have seen this movie and Predators. before the week is out I will probably have seen another – The Karate Kid. But enough cynicism, is the A-Team any good? Well, yes actually. If you like your movies loud and silly. In fact, I loved this movie because it knows it’s not Heat, it’s a remake of a cheesy 1980’s TV show and the movie acts accordingly. The plot is ludicrous, the action is completely over the top (at one point Bradley Cooper is firing a machine gun from a tank that is free-falling from 20,000ft in the air) but it’s a lot of fun. The cast are well suited, with Bradley Cooper doing a great job as Face. there’s loads of chemistry with the entire team with Sharlto Copley providing a lot of the comic relief as Murdoch. Liam Neeson is great as the leader Hannibal. Director Joe Carnahan who also made Narc has a good handle on action scenes, albeit a little Bourne-like for some of the handheld stuff. It’s not always a bad thing but it can be hard to see the action if it’s not cut properly.

Should you see The A-Team? Definitely, the movie is heaps of fun and is a great cinema-going experience. So, even though we are being overwhelmed with remakes an sequels again this Summer, you can still have fun with this fun popcorn flick.

Also, what y’all think of my poster?
